(kod’ e wom pel) (v.) To travel purposefully toward an as-yet unknown destination

Every moment presents an opportunity for a new choice.
An improvisational mindset allows us to make that choice with agility, creativity and connectivity. It helps break down the barriers between people in any unplanned, communicative moment. And it allows us to adapt, respond and collaborate fluidly within unexpected circumstances that arise around us. These are skills not to be taken lightly in times of change, uncertainty and growth. And they can be learned.

Improvisation is applicable to any setting which involves human interaction. We are all improvisers. That is, none of us wakes up with a script each day.  Improvisation operates on the principle that since life isn’t scripted, it pays to work our muscles to prepare for the unknown and think on our feet. Improvisation trains us to thrive in an uncertain world where the best-laid plans can be upended. Based on principles of cooperation, acceptance, agility, support, generosity, spontaneity, creativity and flexibility, improvisational thinking and practice can change your world. As a trained improviser, I know the power of this methodology. And I'll share it in working with you. It's called Applied Improvisation.

Applied Improvisation is using the tools of improv for non-performance based contexts. Businesses and organizations all over the world are using this pro-social method of engagement to transform their internal cultures. It can be used for all or part of a custom program for people who need to collaborate, make decisions and create shared visions and projects. The key comes from reflecting on improvisational activities, where individuals and groups experience transformative learning that can be applied to their own contexts. It’s even more powerful when facilitated by a trained psychologist with an active funny bone.

I can use improvisational skills, principles or methods to teach any subject matter. Participants may not necessarily know they’re doing improv-based activities - they're just engaged in transformative learning. The experience is not about performance; it’s about stimulating connection, insight and change. And having a great time.  Would I lie to you?

I'd love to hear about your project
